Stephen Fisk

Fisk has performed with internationally renowned musicians George Russell, George Lewis, Julian Priester, Jay Clayton, Robin Holcombe, Ingrid Jensen, Phil Grenadier, Aaron Alexander (Freeplay) and Ian Froman (Chris Tarry Group). Fisk has also co-led various touring groups with established Canadian jazz artists including Rob Frayne (Freeplay), John Geggie, and Rod Ellias. Stephen's music has been heard from coast to coast on CBC Radio as well as in collaboration with numerous original music projects across Canada.

 

His eclectic composing skills exhibit a personalized musical language - a divergent blend of vocabularies, styles and genres; jazz pieces, ambient soundscapes, classical forms, free improvisations and pop songs. Fisk is a sought-after and experienced teacher, having taught at the New England Conservatory in Boston, the Sarah McLachlan Music Outreach in Vancouver and across Canada, both privately and as a mentor and clinician for students of all ages and ability.

 

Stephen holds degrees in Arts and Music Composition as well as a Masters degree in Jazz Performance from New England Conservatory. He has studied privately with acclaimed jazz artists Jim Hall in New York City, as well as Paul Bley, George Russell, Danilo Perez, and Mick Goodrick in Boston. He has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors for his work in music.

 

Fisk is presently an instructor for the Sarah McLachlan Music Outreach. With his band Uncommon Gold, Fisk continues to perform, compose and explore with a rich, musical worldview.
